The Lost Perspective? Trade Unions Between Ideology and Social Action in the New Europe. Vol. 2, Significance of Ideology in European Trade Unionism

Description

“The end of ideology” and “farewell to the trade unions” are the two themes popular in public opinion as well as among social scientists. In the two volumes of The Lost Perspective? Both topics are critically reviewed. Does ideology still mean anything to the European trade Unions? Or have they lost all perspective?

Volume one contains summaries of the long-term development of the trade union movement in the United Kingdom. Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Belgium, and the Netherlands. With special reference to the ideological challenges, they faced.

In volume two several internationally renowned specialists reflect on the meaning of ideology to the trade Unions. This includes a critical reassessment of their attitudes towards Women, Immigrants, nationalism, and international trade union cooperation. The Significance of ideology for trade participation and commitments is also studied.
