The countess Markievicz Memorial Lecture has been established by the Irish Association for Industrial relations with the support of the Department of Labour. Countess Markievicz was the first Minister for Labour for the newly independent Irish State. The Memorial lecture's object is to provide a substantive contribution to discussion in the Industrial Relations area by a distinguished practitioner or academic.
The First Lecture was given by Professor Micheal P. Fogarty on November 29, 1976, at the Shelborne Hotel, Dublin. Professor Fogarty is a former director of the Economic and Social institute Dublin, and author of several reports on Irish Industrial relations questions.
